Continuous Positive Airflow Pressure (CPAP)

Treatment with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is the most common treatment for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. It assists ventilation (respiration) by delivering a constant stream of pressurized air to the respiratory tract, thus keeping it open throughout the breathing cycle.

A CPAP machine consist of a bedside compressor, a hose, and a face mask. The apparatus is worn at night to ensure constant, obstruction-free, breathing.

When a CPAP is well tolerated, it is considered to be the best treatment for moderate to severe obstructive apnea.
